Hell everyone, Danielle here with Quoddy Link Marine back for another weekly update.
This season has been unusual with the larger whales being inconsistent and sightings, at times, being slim…lots of searching and patience required to find whales and some of the other wildlife. It’s ALL about the food, it’s the time of year where whales in the Gulf of Maine need to eat and EAT and if the food is more abundant elsewhere then they may simply stay there and feed.
In the past 2 days there seems to be more fish in the area and we have had a number of large finbacks show up further offshore. Last evening the surface of the water was teeming with small herring.
We are still seeing minkes, groups of harbour porpoise, seals and seabirds including shearwaters, storm petrels, northern gannets and murres.

This season continues to surprise us, some good and some frustrating but it’s all a reminder than wildlife is WILD and we must have a lot of respect for that.
