Not sure how it is already August but here we are, deep into the hot days of summer. This a great time for a friendly reminder, no matter how hot it may be on land it will almost always be much cooler on the water so please bring something to keep you warm (sweater, hoodie, etc) AND something to block the wind, especially if you know you want to be on the upper deck in the elements.
The past week we have seen minke whales, a finback and a humpback whale as well as harbour and grey seals and harbour porpoise. There has been an increase in feeding birds (Bonaparte’s gulls and terns) in Head Harbour Passage, especially on the flood and we have seen some groups of Northern gannets and even a few small groups of shearwaters in the fog. Speaking of the fog it is still hanging around but that hasn’t stopped us from seeing whales, just sometimes we need a little more patience and use the flexibility we have built into our departures.

On August 4, Claire and I picked ~400 feet of line out of the water. It was snarled and all wrapped up in rockweed. We took the time to untangle it and cut and coil it then we deposited it in the Debris Free Fundy rope bins provided by the Huntsman Marine Science Centre right at the wharf in St. Andrews!
