Hello everyone, Danielle here to give you a little update on our sightings for the first 2 weeks of July.

We are continuing to see MINKE whales with great consistency, for our regular passengers we have yet to see Slice this season but everyone is certainly keeping their eyes peeled.

On July 8th we had our first FINBACK whale sighting of the 2026 season.  And since then we have documented a total of 4 individual fin whales in our area.  There hasn’t been much consistency when and where we see them but it’s a good sign that they are starting to check out the area.

On July 10th we had our first HUMPBACK whale sighting for the season.  It is early for humpbacks in our area and we have not seen the young whale since but it was great to be able to document the new whale to our area.  Thank You to Center for Coastal Studies and Allied Whale for all the hard work they do studying humpbacks in the Gulf of Maine and the North Atlantic respectively.

There have been lots of porpoise in and around Head Harbour Passage, it’s always so much fun to watch them zooming around when the tide is flowing hard.  Lots of seals both at Black Ledge and on the ledges off Casco Bay Island.  And we have been able to watch a young eaglet over the past few weeks start to hop around the edge of the nest and flap it’s wings a little, although yesterday with the stronger winds it was hunkered down good deeper in its nest.

It has been a good start to the season and we hope as July progresses more feed and more whales move into our search area.  Thank You to everyone who has joined us so far this season or has a reservation in the coming months.  We love sharing our little part of the world with you.
