SIGHTINGS UPDATE
Friday August 7, 2020

10am: This morning we headed up Big Letete and stopped at with some seals at Black Ledge. We spent the morning watching a couple minke whales and had lots of porpoise off Campobello. Captain Mat spotted an adult and juvenile eagle as we made our way to the Old Sow between Eastport, ME and Deer Island, NB. We had a couple last looks at a minke whale before heading back to St. Andrews.

1:30pm: This afternoon we headed straight offshore with a tip from a Quoddy Link family member who was on the Grand Manan ferry and found a humpback whale off the Wolves Bank! Our first HUMPBACK of our 2020 season! It turned out to be a very familiar humpback, Chevron. We watched this whale fluke up 3 times then continue to stay at the surface doing shallow dives. We stopped at Head Harbour Light and at Black Ledge with seals on the way back to St Andrews.

5pm: This evening we found a couple of minke whales. One gave us excellent looks while the other demonstrated how hard it can sometimes be to watch whales (doing long deep dives and moving around quite a bit)! We saw an adult bald eagle, stopped with the Head Harbour Lighthouse, and saw the seals at Black Ledge. Wow!
