RIGHT GOOD...RIGHT AMAZING!! - October 7, 2015

RIGHT GOOD…RIGHT AMAZING!!! This morning we had the privilege to spend time with 2 endangered North Atlantic right whales in the Grand Manan channel. Our morning started with Slice, a very familiar minke whale off Whitehorse Island but thanks to a text from a good friend (who saw a right whale breach along the Campobello shoreline from the Grand Manan ferry!) we decided to go searching. Nick spotted a blow about 4 miles across the channel towards Grand Manan so we went looking and were we ever happy we did!! To spend time with these 2 whales was incredible and if you take the time to look at the photos notice the unique features of right whales including the spatula shaped flippers and the v-shaped blow. Also notice that one of the whales has a lot of scarring oll over the body…it is estimated that ~85% of all NA rights have scars from entanglement in fishing gear and/or ship strikes. I am hoping to get an ID on these whales from the NEAq right whale research team ASAP and I will be sure to post that info here. This afternoon we did head out to see if we could locate them again but didn’t have any luck but we did find 2 minke whales in the tide rip off Long Eddy.
